Mezzanine Case Study: Outdoor Galvanized Mezzanine for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Written by Tom Compton

Challenge

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources needed a place to put their 3,000 lb. Environmental Control Structure that collects data to read the Air Quality for St. Louis, Missouri. The structure needed to be kept well out of reach from potential Flood Waters and provide a sturdy foundation for the sensitive equipment.

Solution

Richard with The Missouri Department of Natural Resources contacted Tom of ISS Material Handling (ISSMH) for consultation on this project. Tom made a site visit to determine the best application for the new structure. Along with the knowledgeable team at Wildeck, Tom was able to spec an Outdoor Galvanized Steel Mezzanine to support the Environmental Control Structure. To ensure proper distribution of the large 3,000 lb. load and to follow proper anchoring codes, ISSMH/Wildeck engineered a custom mezzanine with beams to support and distribute weight under the structure’s runners.

“Tom came up with a great solution for our needs” Richard of The Missouri Department of Natural Resources concluded post-project “He quickly addressed any issues we had and we were very happy with ISS Material Handling”.

Why a Galvanized Steel Mezzanine?

Galvanizing is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron to prevent rust formation. The zinc coating prevents corrosive substances from reaching the metal underneath. This was important for an outdoor structure located in an area that floods frequently.
